Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a valuable therapeutic modality that combines traditional talk therapy or counseling with the added feature of a hypnosis session. Together we will explore your personal goals to gain a clear understanding of how best to access your subconscious to attain those objectives. Hypnosis is a focused state of awareness where the body is fully relaxed and the mind is awake. This state allows access to your subconscious mind where the positive change and transformation you want for yourself can start to take place through the use of hypnotic suggestions. Our sessions would typically include between 15 - 30 minutes of hypnosis. Time will vary depending on the presenting issue.

The power of the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind is responsible for most all of our behavior and thinking. This programming is formed through early societal conditioning from our families, friends, experiences, the media and more.

Consider the (subconscious) mind as a pattern recognition device that seeks to maintain automatic behavior and thought in ways that may not always serve our best interests. The power of hypnosis can retrain our brain to respond in the direction that move us towards our goals by discovering and dissolving limiting beliefs and releasing blocks.

As you slip into the most relaxing and luxurious state of mind that you could imagine, I then am allowed to reprogram or replace unwanted thinking with positive desired outcomes and thoughts. These positive suggestions are gathered from what you want for your life.

Hypnosis FAQs

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is simply a state of focused concentration. There are many depth levels when experiencing hypnosis. One does not need to achieve extreme depth to benefit from it.

The experience is different for each individual. Being in hypnosis is nothing like the stage hypnosis that is commonly seen. That is only one form of hypnosis. Other ways of experiencing it are when you’re on auto-pilot when driving, being completely immersed in a movie, or even when falling in love. It can also be similar to times when you are daydreaming or ‘zoned out’ so to speak.

Hypnosis is experienced by everyone on a daily basis. Yes, you have been in hypnosis already today! When you first woke up this morning, during the dreamy-drowsy state before having your cup of tea or coffee, this is one of the numerous times we are experiencing hypnosis each day. Right before we fall asleep is another time we experience hypnosis.

It is during the alpha and theta state, which is between the beta (fully awake) and delta (deep asleep) states that hypnosis occurs. With hypnotherapy, this state is used to your advantage. This is a suggestible state, where only positives are given, so your subconscious readily absorbs all this in. The subconscious is more open during this state because this is when our 'thinking mind' relaxes.

Does it really work?

According to the American Psychological Association, "Hypnosis continues to show promise in reducing pain and soothing anxiety." Pain and anxiety are only a couple of the boundless ways hypnosis is proving to work effectively.

Hypnosis is being acknowledged and used more each day within the field of licensed practitioners such as psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and psychologists. The use of hypnosis in the therapeutic setting has achieved great success in helping people create desired change. It is a tool that has been in existence for centuries to help with behavior modification. Hypnotherapists use hypnosis to help bring about relief and create healthy change for their clients using a 100% natural and safe process.

How long is a session?

Our first hypnotherapy session is up to 120 minutes. Subsequent sessions are 60 minutes in duration. Past Life Regression therapy sessions are approximately 2 hours in length.

How many sessions are required?

Each case is different depending on the issue at hand.  HYPNOSIS IS NOT A ONE-SESSION FIX.  Generally, a minimum number of sessions is recommended for lasting results. Powerful results can be achieved after just one session for some, while others may prefer on-going sessions over a given time. It is common to have 3-6 sessions surrounding any given issue.

Can everyone be hypnotized?

Yes. There is a common misconception that some people are not able to go into hypnosis due to the common Stage Hypnosis we tend to associate it with.  Everyone experiences hypnosis daily. We are simply triggering this 100% natural state to work towards your advantage.

Is hypnosis mind control?

No.  No matter how deep of a state you are under, if I suggest, 'You are a chicken,' chances are your mind will reject this suggestion.  It is a two-way street with hypnosis.  Your mind only takes in suggestions it is willing to accept.

*You cannot be forced/coerced into doing/believing anything you don’t want.

*You are always in control.

*You cannot be stuck in hypnosis.

*You can awaken from hypnosis at any time simply by opening your eyes.

*You will hear everything that is said.

*Each individual experience is unique.

*You may not feel hypnotized, when in fact you are.

*It is safe to drive after being hypnotized.

Will I be asleep?

No, the hypnotic state resembles sleep. The conscious mind is fully awake and all the senses are functioning.

Can I be hypnotized against my will?

No. A person’s cooperation is necessary for hypnosis to occur.

Do repeated sessions increase a person’s ability to be hypnotized?

Yes. The extent of relaxation and depth of trance will improve as the number of sessions increases.

What if the person can’t wake up?

Won’t happen. However, frequently the relaxation is so enjoyable that the person decides to enjoy it for a few moments longer. If you’re left alone, then you will likely either fall asleep and awaken naturally.

Are there dangers involved with hypnosis?

No, as long as someone is not a threat to themselves or others. A consultation and conversation are required prior to scheduling our first session.

What qualities as a client should I bring to our sessions?

Motivation and cooperation. I call this “leaning in” to the experience.

What is Neuro Linguistic Programming?

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the study of excellence. It can be described as a system or modality used to reprogram the images and patterns in our mind. Our thinking creates perception, which then produces our behavior and emotional state of being. As we change the pictures running in our head, we can then change our behavior and how we feel. As a Certified NLP practitioner I use specific proven techniques to reprogram the subconscious by eliminating unwanted thought patterns getting in the way of optimal functioning and wellbeing.

Online sessions: Are they effective?

Online sessions are just as effective as in person sessions. A session online is via Zoom and I send you an easy to use link for the appointment time. Additionally, a remote session (on the phone or Zoom) can feel more intimate and comfortable because you are in the privacy of a room of your choosing. This works best if you keep your hands free by using a computer and headphones. Please make arrangements to be in a quiet undisturbed location.
