Psychedelic Safety Questionnaire
Psychedelic-Cannabis Safety Questionnaire
2023 v1
While cannabis is legal in California to possess and consume in certain contexts, and is used recreationally and safely by millions of people, Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy, Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy, Cannabis Psychedelic Journey Events, and Conscious Cannabis Circles (CCC), collectively Transformational Cannabis Experiences (TCEs), are far more closely akin to other psychedelic experiences, rather than guided meditation or traditional psychotherapy sessions. Using other mind-altering substances besides cannabis in a TCE is expressly forbidden.
Taking this self-assessment is required before participating in any cannabis-related events with Transformational Cannabis, outlined in the OPTIMIZE LIFE, LCC - TCE / CCC Participation Agreement. The questions may also be part of a structured psychedelic safety assessment interview to participate in ongoing classes or our training program. Please review before your scheduled session and contact your facilitator with any questions.
A Few Comments About the Self-Assessment
Transformational Cannabis Experiences / Conscious Cannabis Circles are very safe, but they are not for everyone. This assessment is for your own safety, nothing more. Please be honest with yourself and us.
Answering a yes to any of the safety self-assessment questions below may indicate a need to (for additional support before participating in a medicine-related experience. A “yes” answer does not automatically disqualify you from our services. It is an opportunity to discuss safety, and to help your facilitator create the necessary preparation and integration support, and the safest and most meaningful container for your experience.) slow down and to check in with a Facilitator about attending a Transformational Cannabis Experience / Conscious Cannabis Circle, or might require the postponement of attending a TCE/CCC if it represents a significant concern.
Although most experiences are positive and deeply meaningful, truthfully answering “no” to every question does not guarantee an easy or enjoyable experience. Although positive outcomes are common, exploring the material evoked by these medicines is sometimes difficult to do. Your facilitator is here to support you throughout the process.
Notes and recommendations on how to assess an answer are included in [brackets] as part of the question. A Transformational Cannabis Experience / Conscious Cannabis Circle facilitator is available before the event to answer any of your questions related to safety. You are encouraged to have all your questions and concerns addressed before participating. Truthfully answering “No” to every question does not guarantee a positive experience. By participating in a TCE/CCC you are agreeing to take full responsibility for any outcomes experienced.
Contraindications (reasons not to attend) are included in the TCE/CCC Participation Agreement and listed in the questions. With the right support, private sessions can be facilitated to treat significant clinical concerns that might not be appropriate in a group setting. Speak to your therapist or facilitator if you have any questions.
Again, these events are very safe, but they’re not for everyone. Please be honest with yourself regarding your readiness for exploring psychedelic medicines. You can print this document and bring it with notes and questions to any private sessions. We are here to support you through this decision-making process.
This safety assessment is required for individual and group Transformational Cannabis Experiences, Conscious Cannabis Circle and Cannabis Psychedelic Journeys.
